The bed bug is a small, flat, brown to reddish-brown insect that feeds on blood by biting warm-blooded animals. The adults will grow up to 4-7 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. The most common bed bug is known as Cimex lectularius, which prefers to feed on human blood. A bed bug will feed every two or three days, which will usually be at night time when people are fast asleep.
Bed bugs are known to be carried around in luggage, clothing and furniture. These bugs are a tiny & agile insect which can hide well in all kinds of belongings. They can also migrate by themselves to look for a host to feed on & can spread from one room to another, which could lead to an infestation in the whole building. Bed bugs will usually hide in cracks and crevices often within bed frames, mattresses, head boards, also under furniture, carpeting & other flooring types.
Identification as early as possible is a key factor for a fast & effective treatment, Bed bugs will live close to where people sleep ( usually within 8 feet ) as they are attracted to body heat & carbon dioxide from our breath. Regular checks of mattresses, furniture, under carpets & in dark crevices in rooms will result in a situation that can be dealt with quickly & with minimal business disruption.
Your BPCA Accredited Pest Control Technician will thoroughly inspect your property to determine the extent of the bed bug infestation and which rooms have been affected. Following this initial inspection and identifying bed bugs, we will recommend the best course of action for your situation to control & remove the bed bugs from your property.
Bed Bug Treatments
It is highly recommended that the bed bug treatment is carried out over a minimum of two visits, which will be spaced at two weeks apart. This is due to the life cycle of the bed bug's. On the first treatment visit, your pest control technician will use a specialised insecticide which is low toxic to people, but deadly for bed bugs. Any present bed bugs will die over time due to the insecticide having long lasting residual properties. On the second & any further treatment visits (if required), your pest control technician will assess the results of the first treatment & apply a different professional insecticide to ensure the complete removal of the bed bug colony.
Your pest control technician will provide you with a detailed report about the treatment completed, and also offer advice that will minimise the risk of future infestations.
All treatments carried out by ACE Pest Management comply with current health and safety legislation and COSHH.
