Bee Nests - ACE Pest Management do no carry out treatments for bee nests. We recommend that you contact a local bee keeper for advice.
Treating a wasp nest can be a dangerous job. The wasps inside the nest may feel threatened, become aggressive and cause them to sting you as they defend their nest. If you have a wasp nest on your property, it is advisable to arrange for a professional wasp nest treatment to eliminate the nest and keep you safe. To get rid of wasps you do not need to remove the nest itself, but the nest and the nesting wasps or hornets do need to be treated. You can rely on ACE Pest Management to help you clear wasp nests from your property & create a safe environment. We are able to provide professional wasp nest treatments in Exeter, Teignbridge & Torbay areas of Devon.
The two most common wasp species found in the UK reponsible for causing painful wasp stings are:
Common Wasp – Vespula Vulgaris
German Wasp – Vespula Germanica
Wasps are yellow & black striped flying insects that have painful stings which can cause allergic reactions in people
The worker wasps are 12-17mm in length & the queen wasp is 20mm in length
A single wasp nest may produce 3,000-8,000 wasps in a single year
The wasp nest is made from chewed wood and saliva producing a paper mache material, which is both durable & light weight
The queen will hibernate over the winter before making a nest in the spring in
which to lay her eggs, upto 300 eggs can be layed in one day.
The queen will feed the grubs on insects until they develop into worker wasps, which is usually 3-4 weeks later.
The worker wasps can forage for over a mile in search of a food source.
Towards the end of the year when the colder air arrives & natural food sources rapidly perish, the adult worker wasps will start to die off. The new queen wasps will now go into hibernation and will emerge in the following spring to start building completely new nests.
Wasps are most likely to build their nests in sheltered locations, such as under trees, in bushes, in wall cavities, under building eaves, in your shed or garage.
Our wasp nest treatments are carried out by applying an approved professional insecticide dust to the entrance of the nest or inside the nest itself.
Once treated, there is no need to remove the wasp nest as the nest will only be used for one season, the same nest will never be reused by a new queen the following year. In addition to treating wasp nest sites, we can also supply wasp pot traps for use in food storage and processing areas, including patio, barbecue, or beer garden areas.
